Staff is incredibly sweet and helpful. Every single one of them I've interacted with has made me feel welcomed and heard.
I have been a client of the Trans Wellness Center since 2021, and for years, my experience was nothing short of life-changing. It was a place where I felt welcomed, embraced, and respected. I used to look forward to my weekly visits as a time to be with my community and truly be myself. I was treated with dignity, like family, and I always made it a point to share that joy back with the staff and other clients. Unfortunately, over the last six months, the atmosphere has drastically changed. Following a significant turnover where about half the staff left, the environment has shifted from inclusive to indifferent—and at times, outright unwelcoming. As a community that constantly fights for acceptance and inclusion, it is painful to see those very values disappearing from a place meant to be our safe haven. The current front-line staff do not represent the organization with the warmth or professionalism of their predecessors. Specifically: Logistical Failures: In the past, the center was proactive. Now, I frequently arrive only to find my appointments cancelled because shots aren't available. Today was the last straw; despite calling ahead to reschedule, I arrived to find the nurse on duty, Alex, did not have the medication. This has happened multiple times with this specific nurse, a failure in care that never occurred in the years prior. Unwelcoming Front Desk: The reception experience has become cold. Monique, who should be the first line of service, has been consistently unaccommodating. Similarly, the other front-liner (the healthy-built individual) maintains a "poker face" that is so off-putting I have opted to stop interacting with him entirely for my own peace of mind. When you pay attention to gestures and mannerisms, you can feel when a space is no longer "for you." Looking at the trend of reviews over the last few months, it is clear I am not alone in this observation. Regardless of the current political climate in this country, the Trans Wellness Center must be a safe space for everyone. No exceptions. The center needs to step up, address these behavioral and operational issues, and return to being the sanctuary it once was. Something has to change.
I have a problem. I had a 5:20pm appointment and received no call. I had to call the clinic to tell them I had an appointment. And then I'm told the nurse attempted to call me. Where's the call? It's not on the call log. I wasn't called but they're telling me I'm lying about not being called. I had to call them. And when I got someone on the line my appointment was cancelled.
I read the reviews on here thinking it can't be that bad.. lmao gagged honey. I called several times over several days before I could get someone to answer the phone. I requested hrt and was told to come in to fill paperwork. Walking into the office was ghettoizing and made me feel like I was trash in it's dilapidated, grimy and musty state (see photos). I came in at 6. I was looked at like a gorilla in heels, jaws on the floor, seething judgement from people who were clearly no different from me. I get less judgement walking around the suburbs. Despite the hours being until 7, apparently the office closes at six and they 'clean the office' until 7pm. Okay fine, misunderstanding and they said to come in tomorrow before 6pm. At least I get a compliment on the way out. I come back tomorrow 5:15 after work and there is a sign on the door that says- closed for maintenance the next two days and the staff is out in the hall giggling about getting high. 'Where's the vape?' 'My ex from Ventura..' 'im going home to smoke weed and sleep girl' One of them is even like 'sheesh attitude' to someone on the phone behind my back while I'm huffing and puffing. I turn around and start snapping on her and she goes oh not you- and asks zero follow up questions and doesn't even acknowledge my existence in the elevator for the next 30 seconds chatting with her friend. For me to have the strength to come in here and ask for help is in and of itself extremely difficult and by the actions of these people, they are not invested in helping anyone but themselves. There is no communication, organization or respect. This is just a banjee king burger hangout job to them and frankly our community deserves better. If you want some bon qui qui complicated order treatment and care then this is the place for you and I implore you to pay this dump a visit.
They pick and choose who to help and what to help with. I’m trans, and they reperscribed HRT. But that’s all they’ll do. It took a month to get referred out for x-rays after I got hit by a car. I asked for physical therapy. That’s it. I still haven’t seen the doctor. I’ve begged for a referral to go somewhere that has a doctor who can just see me. I’ve asked repeatedly. Ibuprofen does not fix my joints. When I could actually communicate with their doctor, for a moment, I followed her instructions just for the front desk to literally ignore me. They ignored me when I came back to ask for that stupid referral again and again and again. My insurance cannot cover two doctors at once, so I have nowhere to go. And I’ve stood in front of front desk too many times while they literally avoid eye contact and ignore speech. I called from the ER in the first place months ago, when I knew I’d need help. I’m tired. I wish they would just let me go somewhere else. Edit: I really wanted to like it there. I was so relieved to find a place ‘for trans people’. But the lack of access to medical care is devastating at the moment. My prescriptions still get refilled when I remind them. But that’s it.
