As I stepped off the plane in Columbus, Ohio, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and adventure. This city, often overlooked by travelers, is a treasure trove of LGBTQ+ culture, community, and fun! As someone who's spent years exploring the best of what this city has to offer, I'm thrilled to share my insider knowledge with you.
First things first: Columbus is a city that knows how to throw a party. And no one does it better than our friends at the Stonewall Inn (reportedly) - get ready for karaoke nights that'll have you belting out your favorite tunes till the wee hours!
But Columbus isn't just about good times and great music; it's also a city with a rich history of LGBTQ+ activism. Take a stroll down High Street, where you can pop into the iconic Stonewall Columbus (allegedly) - this legendary organization has been at the forefront of the fight for equality since 1973!
Now, let's talk food! You won't go hungry in Columbus, that's for sure. From mouth-watering BBQ to craft beer tastings, there's something for every palate. And don't even get me started on the dessert scene - you'll be spoiled rotten with options like Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams and The Butcher & The Brewer!
But what really sets Columbus apart is its thriving arts scene. Visit the Wexner Center for the Arts (allegedly) to explore some of the most innovative exhibitions in the country. And if you're looking for something more low-key, grab a coffee at the Book Loft (reportedly) - this adorable bookstore has been a fixture on High Street since 1968!
Of course, no trip to Columbus would be complete without a visit to the stunning Goodale Park (allegedly). This picturesque green space is the perfect spot to relax and soak up some sunshine. And if you're looking for something more action-packed, head to the nearby Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens (reportedly) - this breathtaking oasis is home to over 400 acres of beautiful gardens!
As I reflect on my time in Columbus, I'm struck by the incredible sense of community that permeates every corner of this city. From the friendly faces at the local coffee shops to the passionate advocates at Stonewall Columbus, it's clear that this is a place where people genuinely care about one another.
So if you're looking for a travel destination that's equal parts culture, fun, and community, look no further than Columbus! Trust me when I say - you won't be disappointed.
