Columbus, You've Got It Going On!

Columbus is more than just a Midwestern metropolis – it's a hub of creativity, inclusivity, and awesomeness. From its vibrant arts scene to its thriving nightlife, Columbus has got it going on! As a long-time resident, I've had the privilege of witnessing Columbus's evolution into a true LGBTQ+ haven. The city's rich history of embracing diversity is palpable in every corner, from the iconic Short North neighborhood to the bustling campus of Ohio State University. Let me tell you, this place has got energy! From the eclectic boutique shops and art galleries along High Street to the world-class restaurants and bars on the Scioto Mile, Columbus is a city that knows how to party – and with style! One of my favorite spots is the legendary Stonewall Inn, the longest-running LGBTQ+ bar in the Midwest. This iconic spot has been serving up drinks and good vibes since 1964, making it a staple of the community. Trust me, if you're ever in Columbus on a Friday night, make sure to swing by for a drink (or three) and soak up the electric atmosphere! Of course, no trip to Columbus would be complete without a visit to the stunning Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. This breathtaking oasis is home to over 400 acres of beautifully manicured gardens, stunning glass sculptures, and even a Victorian-era greenhouse – it's like stepping into a real-life fairy tale! And, as an added bonus, the Conservatory plays host to some amazing LGBTQ+ events throughout the year, including the popular "LGBTQ+ Pride in Bloom" celebration. Another must-see spot is the Columbus Museum of Art. This world-class institution is home to over 13,000 works of art, featuring pieces from local and international artists alike. With rotating exhibitions and interactive installations, you'll find yourself getting lost in the beauty and creativity on display. And, as a bonus, the CMA has a strong focus on showcasing LGBTQ+ artists and their work – it's a true celebration of diversity and inclusivity! Now, I know what you're thinking: "What about food?" Don't worry, friend – Columbus's got that covered too! From the mouth-watering barbecue at Dream On BBQ to the delectable desserts at The Sweet Spot, there's something for every taste bud. And, as a special treat, make sure to check out the iconic North Market, where you can sample everything from artisanal cheeses to authentic Mexican cuisine. Last but certainly not least, Columbus is home to some of the most amazing LGBTQ+ events and organizations in the country. The annual Columbus Pride Festival, for instance, draws thousands of attendees each year with its dazzling parades, live music performances, and – let's be real – an incredible party atmosphere! And, if you're looking for a more low-key vibe, be sure to check out the Columbus LGBTQ+ Community Center, which offers everything from support groups to social events for all members of the community.
