I've found that there's no place like Key West during Pride Month! As a long-time resident and advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusivity, I'm thrilled to share my favorite spots and secrets with you. Get ready to soak up the sun-kissed vibes, delicious eats, and unparalleled fun in this tropical paradise.
**Sunset Celebration**
No trip to Key West would be complete without witnessing the breathtaking sunset at Mallory Square. As the sky transforms into a kaleidoscope of colors, the air fills with music, laughter, and the sweet scent of freshly cooked street food. It's the perfect spot to toast your Pride celebration with friends and loved ones.
**Rainbow-Ribboned Delights**
Indulge in a culinary adventure at Azur Restaurant & Bar, where chef/owner David Morera whips up delectable dishes infused with love and creativity. Their Rainbow Ribbon Cake is a must-try – it's as colorful as it is scrumptious! After dinner, grab a drink (or two) at the adjacent bar, where you can enjoy the lively atmosphere and people-watching.
**Pride in the Streets**
Key West Pride Week typically takes place in June, with a spectacular parade down Duval Street. But even when Pride isn't officially in season, the island's welcoming spirit is always on display. Join the revelry at La Te Da Cabaret & Restaurant, where drag shows and themed events keep the party going year-round.
**Neon Nights**
For an unforgettable nightlife experience, head to Aqua Nightclub, a beloved institution that's been serving up tropical cocktails and pulsating beats for over two decades. This iconic spot is home to some of Key West's most talented DJs, so get ready to dance the night away!
**Emerging Voices**
Key West is also home to an incredible array of emerging artists and performers. Catch live music and spoken word at the Green Parrot Bar, a local favorite that showcases up-and-coming talent from around the world. It's the perfect spot to discover new sounds and connect with fellow art lovers.
**Love in Bloom**
As you wander through the charming streets, be sure to stop by the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, where hundreds of colorful butterflies (and some even more stunning) flit about amidst lush foliage. It's a serene oasis that'll leave you feeling light and airy – just like your first sip of a Pia Colada!
**Community Champions**
Last but not least, I want to shout-out our community heroes! Key West is home to an impressive array of organizations dedicated to LGBTQ+ inclusivity, from the Key West Business Guild (which proudly hosts the annual Pride Week) to the AIDS Service Union. Take some time to explore these incredible resources and get involved in the local activism scene.
**That's a Wrap!**
As the sun dips below the horizon, I hope you've had as much fun as I have exploring this enchanting island with me. Key West is more than just a destination – it's an attitude, a state of mind that embodies love, acceptance, and community. Come back soon, y'all!
