Ah, Key West! Where the sun dips into the ocean like a fiery kiss, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange. As I strolled along Duval Street, my stomach growling in anticipation, I knew I was in for a treat. This tiny island at the southernmost tip of Florida is a food lover's haven, where Caribbean flavors mingle with Southern charm and a dash of island funk.
My culinary adventure began at **Blue Heaven**, a Key West institution serving up fluffy omelets and crispy bacon since 1982. We waltzed in without reservations (because, let's be real, that's what vacation mode is all about) and were greeted by the friendly staff, who whisked us away to our cozy corner table amidst the lush greenery. The **Key West-style breakfast** was a revelation – fluffy eggs, crispy bacon, and a side of hash browns that would put any diner to shame. And don't even get me started on those biscuits...!
Next up, we headed to **El Siboney Restaurant**, where Cuban cuisine reigns supreme. This no-frills eatery has been serving up authentic eats since 1972, when founder José González opened its doors. We devoured **Cuban sandwiches** piled high with ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on crispy bread, accompanied by a side of creamy **arroz con pollo** (that's rice with chicken for you non-Cubanos). The service was warm and welcoming, just like the aromas wafting from the kitchen.
Now, about those **sunset sips**: no trip to Key West would be complete without raising a glass (or two, or three...) to the setting sun. We strolled along the waterfront, taking in the views of the **Westin Key West Resort & Marina**, where we grabbed a spot at the **Sunset Tiki Bar**. With a piña colada in hand, we toasted the sky ablaze with hues of pink and orange, as the live music drifted across the water. Pure magic!
But Key West's culinary scene is more than just a pretty face – it's also deeply rooted in its LGBTQ+ community. **The Stoned Crab**, located in the heart of Duval Street, is a must-visit for seafood lovers and party animals alike. This eco-friendly restaurant, founded by local legend Michael Gottlieb, offers an impressive selection of fresh catches and creative cocktails. We indulged in **grilled shrimp** skewers and **lobster rolls**, all while vibing to the lively tunes spinning on the patio.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we made our way to **Margaritaville**, Jimmy Buffett's iconic bar and restaurant. This island institution has been serving up margaritas, burgers, and tropical vibes since 1983. We sipped on a **Key West Margarita** (naturally) while watching the sun set over the water – what more could you ask for?
Key West is more than just a destination; it's an experience that will leave your taste buds singing, your soul stirring, and your heart full. As I looked out at the ocean, feeling the warm breeze on my skin and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, I knew that this little slice of paradise would stay with me forever.
So come for the food, stay for the sunsets, and leave with a heart full of love – that's what Key West is all about!
