I've lived in Las Vegas for a while now, and I've found that this city is more than just a glitzy facade – it's got heart. And what's at the heart of our community? Pride, baby! As we approach another year of celebrating love, acceptance, and self-expression, I'm thrilled to share some local gems that make Las Vegas shine brighter than the Strip on New Year's Eve!
First off, let's talk about our fabulous LGBTQ+ bars. You can't go wrong with the OG, The Center (reportedly the oldest continuously operating gay bar in the US!). This iconic spot has been a staple of the community for over 40 years, offering a welcoming atmosphere and a killer selection of cocktails. Another favorite is Pia Bar, which boasts an impressive array of craft beers and a fun-loving vibe. And if you're looking for something a little more low-key, The Scuba Shack is your spot – think pool tables, arcade games, and a relaxed atmosphere perfect for catching up with friends.
Now, let's get to the food! You know I'm a sucker for some good old-fashioned comfort food, and Las Vegas delivers. Head to Eat, located in the trendy Arts District, for mouthwatering brunch options like chilaquiles and breakfast tacos. And when you're in the mood for something sweet (and who isn't?!), swing by The Creamistry – this artisanal ice cream shop has unique flavors like lavender honey and strawberry balsamic.
But what really gets my heart racing is our amazing community events! Take, for instance, the annual Las Vegas Pride Festival & Parade. This iconic celebration brings together thousands of people from across the country to show their pride and support LGBTQ+ causes. And don't miss the Pride Brunch at the Tropicana Resort's Azure Luxury Lounge – it's an unforgettable experience with live music, great food, and a room full of love.
Of course, no discussion of Las Vegas would be complete without mentioning our incredible drag culture! The city is home to some truly talented queens and kings, and there are plenty of places to catch their acts. For a more intimate setting, head to the trendy cocktail bar, Oak & Ivy, which regularly hosts drag shows featuring local legends like Shantina LaRue and Sahara Ray.
Last but certainly not least, let's give it up for our community heroes! From organizations like the Gay Men's Chorus of Las Vegas and the Southern Nevada Association for Education (SNAE) to individual advocates like Equality Nevada's own Taylor Maze, these unsung heroes are making a difference in our community every day.
As I look out at this vibrant city, I'm reminded that Las Vegas Pride is more than just a celebration – it's a beacon of hope and acceptance. And what better way to experience that than with the people, places, and culture that make this city so unique? So come on down, friends! Let's raise our rainbow flags high and show the world what we're made of.
