Oh, what a city! I've had the pleasure of calling Las Vegas home for a while now, and let me tell you – this place knows how to throw a party! As the sun sets on the Strip, the lights come alive, and the energy is palpable. It's a city that never sleeps, and neither do its LGBTQ+ residents!
I've found that Las Vegas has become a hub for our community, attracting people from all over the world with its inclusive vibe, stunning nightlife, and endless entertainment options. And let me tell you, it's a party planner's dream come true! From circuit events to charity fundraisers, there's always something going on.
One of my favorite spots is the iconic Flamingo Hotel & Casino, which has been a Las Vegas staple since 1946. Reportedly, it was one of the first hotels in the US to openly welcome LGBTQ+ guests, and I've heard that its pool parties are simply legendary! Who knew that beneath those tropical palms and flamingos, the fun never stops?
Of course, no trip to Sin City would be complete without a visit to the LINQ Promenade. This outdoor shopping and entertainment district is a hotspot for our community, with its vibrant atmosphere and stunning views of the Strip. Allegedly, it's also where I caught my first-ever pride parade (more on that later)!
Speaking of which, have you heard about the annual Las Vegas Pride Parade & Festival? It's a spectacle like no other! Thousands gather along the Strip to celebrate our community with music, food, and – of course – rainbow-colored everything. This year's festivities drew an estimated 30,000 attendees, making it one of the largest LGBTQ+ events in the country!
But what really gets me excited is the growing presence of LGBTQ+-friendly businesses in Las Vegas. Places like The Center LV, a community hub offering support services and resources for our community, are doing incredible work. And then there's local hotspots like Ruby Roo and Eagle Aerie Bar, which have become staples for our nightlife scene.
Now, I know what you're thinking – "Winston, this all sounds amazing, but what about the LGBTQ+ representation in Las Vegas media?" Well, friend, I'm happy to report that our city is finally getting the recognition it deserves! With shows like RuPaul's Drag Race and A League of Their Own featuring local talent, we're seeing more visibility than ever before.
As I close out this article, I want to leave you with a message of hope and excitement. Las Vegas might not be everyone's cup of tea (I mean, have you seen the traffic?!), but for our community, it's a city that truly gets us. So grab your friends, pack those dancing shoes, and get ready to Viva Las Pride!
