Hey, Pulse fam! It's your boy Ryan here, and I'm stoked to be sharing my Melbourne adventure with you all! This city has stolen my heart (and will likely do the same for you). From its iconic landmarks to its thriving LGBTQ+ scene, Melbourne is a treasure trove of fun, culture, and community. So, grab your favorite rainbow-colored outfit and let's dive in!
As I stepped off the train at Southern Cross Station, I knew I was in for a treat. The city's eclectic energy is palpable, and you can't help but feel drawn to its vibrant neighborhoods. From the trendy boutiques of Fitzroy to the bustling bars of Prahran, every corner seems to have a story to tell.
For me, no Melbourne adventure would be complete without a visit to the famous Queen Victoria Market (QVM). This iconic market has been around since 1878 and is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the city's rich history. With over 7,000 square meters of shopping space, you'll find everything from fresh produce to handmade jewelry. And, of course, there are plenty of rainbow-colored souvenirs to take home!
After working up an appetite at QVM, I headed to Smith & Daughters, a vegan and gluten-free diner in Fitzroy. This popular spot serves up some of the city's best plant-based eats, from breakfast burritos to burgers. And don't even get me started on their famous churros – you won't leave without trying one (or three)!
But Melbourne is more than just food and shopping; it's also a city that takes pride in its LGBTQ+ heritage. The city played host to the world-famous Melbourne International Pride March, which saw thousands of revellers take to the streets to celebrate diversity and inclusivity. And let me tell you, it was an absolute spectacle! With floats, performances, and plenty of rainbow-colored flair, this event is a must-attend for anyone looking to experience the city's vibrant queer culture.
Of course, no Melbourne adventure would be complete without a visit to some of its famous pubs and bars. The Rainbow Hotel in Fitzroy is a particular favorite of mine – it's a cozy spot with an incredible selection of craft beers and live music every night of the week. And if you're looking for something a bit more high-energy, head to the iconic Peel Hotel, which hosts some of the city's best DJs and parties.
Melbourne is also home to some amazing LGBTQ+-friendly accommodations. The Art Series Hotel in South Yarra offers stunning rooms with breathtaking views of the city, as well as an impressive selection of art pieces throughout the hotel. And for something a bit more budget-friendly, consider staying at the rainbow-colored aptly-named Queer Town Hotel in Fitzroy.
As I reflected on my Melbourne adventure, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this incredible city and its warm, welcoming community. Whether you're looking to experience its world-class culture, indulge in some of the best food and drink in the country, or simply soak up the sun (or rain) in one of its many parks and gardens, Melbourne has something for everyone.
So pack your bags, grab your favorite rainbow-colored accessory, and get ready to fall in love with this incredible city! Trust me, you won't regret it.
