The Green Room, a stalwart on Flinders Street, has been a mainstay of the scene for decades. The city is home to an astonishing array of queer-friendly venues, from the boundary-pushing cabaret nights at the Forum Theatre to the soulful sounds of the Red Bennie jazz club. One such gem is The Night Cat, a beloved Fitzroy institution that's been serving up live music and good vibes for over two decades. This humble venue may not look like much from the outside, but step inside and you'll be treated to some of the city's best local talent, from indie rockers to electronic DJs. As I've explored Melbourne's nightlife, I've been struck by the sense of community that pervades every corner of the scene. Queer folks from all walks of life come together to celebrate, commiserate, and simply be themselves – free from judgment or expectation. It's a truly special thing, this queer Melbourne magic.
