Montreal, the city of saints and sinners! As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I've had the pleasure of calling this vibrant metropolis home for years. One of my personal favorite aspects of Montreal's LGBTQ+ scene is its embracing of diversity. From Indigenous to Black, Asian, Latinx, and everything in between – our community celebrates and honors every shade of rainbow. That means you'll find representation on stage at shows like the annual Pride Festival, or in local queer organizations like the Quebec Gay Archives. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Helen, this all sounds amazing, but what about the challenges?" Ah, my friends, no city is perfect – and Montreal's LGBTQ+ community is no exception. From navigating the complexities of queer relationships to dealing with external homophobia and transphobia, we face our own set of unique challenges. But here's the thing: those challenges are exactly why our community is so resilient, resourceful, and – dare I say it? – passionate! When faced with adversity, we come together, support each other, and find ways to thrive despite (and often because of) the obstacles.
