Y'all, if you haven't experienced New Orleans yet, what are you even doing with your life?! I'm not exaggerating when I say that this city is a LGBTQ+ paradise. The Crescent City has a way of making everyone feel welcome, and its entertainment scene is no exception.
As someone who's called NOLA home for years, I've had the pleasure of exploring all the hidden gems (and some not-so-hidden ones, tbh) this city has to offer. From dive bars to dance clubs, from jazz joints to drag shows, there's something for every kind of queer thrill-seeker.
One of my go-to spots is the legendary Carousel Bar & Lounge at the Hotel Monteleone. This iconic bar has been spinning tunes since 1949 and boasts some of the best people-watching in the city (and possibly the country). The atmosphere is always electric, with a dash of old-school New Orleans charm. It's the perfect place to grab a Sazerac and kick off a night on the town.
Of course, no trip to NOLA would be complete without a visit to the French Quarter. This historic neighborhood is the beating heart of the city's LGBTQ+ scene. Bourbon Street may get all the attention, but it's the side streets and alleys that really reveal the magic. From the infamous strip clubs like the Gold Club to more laid-back bars like the Bulldog, there's always something cooking.
If you're looking for a unique experience, head to the New Orleans Burlesque Festival, which takes place every spring. This sultry celebration of all things striptease features some of the most talented performers from around the world. It's a wild and wacky ride that'll leave you breathless (and possibly a little sweaty).
But NOLA's entertainment scene isn't just about bars and clubs – it's also deeply rooted in its rich cultural heritage. The city is home to an incredible array of music, from jazz and blues to zydeco and Cajun. You can catch some of the best local acts at legendary venues like Preservation Hall or the Howlin' Wolf.
One of my personal favorites is the Spotted Cat Music Club on Frenchmen Street. This cozy spot has been a mainstay of the NOLA music scene for years, featuring everything from brass bands to singer-songwriters. The atmosphere is always lively and intimate, with a dash of that famous New Orleans hospitality.
And then, of course, there's the food – oh, the glorious food! You can't leave NOLA without trying some beignets at Cafe du Monde or a po' boy sandwich from Parkway Bakery. And don't even get me started on the gumbo... I mean, seriously, folks, this city is a culinary playground.
So if you're looking for a place where the party never stops and the energy is always electric, look no further than New Orleans. Trust me when I say that you won't be disappointed – and who knows, you might just find yourself becoming a NOLA convert like so many of us have.
**The Pink Pulse** recommends:
* Visit the National WWII Museum (because, history)
* Take a stroll through Lafayette Square (for some old-school NOLA charm)
* Grab a plate of beignets at Cafe du Monde (because, priorities)
Come for the music, stay for the magic – and don't forget to bring your dancing shoes!
