And as someone who's spent countless nights dancing the night away under the neon lights of downtown Orlando, I'm here to give you the lowdown on what makes our LGBTQ+ scene so pulse-pounding! First off, let me just say that Orlando's got a bad rep for being all about theme parks and mouse ears. Newsflash: we're so much more than that! Our city is a hotbed of creativity, energy, and community spirit – and nowhere is that more evident than on our vibrant nightlife scene. From the moment you step foot in the SoDo District (that's South of Downtown for those who don't know), you can feel the electricity in the air. The streets are alive with the sound of laughter, music, and good vibes flowing from every corner bar and club. And let me tell you, some of these spots are straight-up iconic. Take, for instance, the legendary Parliament House. This beloved institution has been serving up a side of sass with their signature cocktails since 1975! Yes, you read that right – this place has been around longer than I've been alive! With multiple bars, clubs, and even a poolside lounge, PH is the go-to spot for a night out (or in) that's guaranteed to get wild. Of course, no trip to Orlando would be complete without a visit to The Coop. This queer-owned bar has been a mainstay of the scene since 2014, offering up a rotating selection of craft beers and expertly mixed cocktails alongside some of the city's best karaoke jams. Trust me when I say that singing your heart out with a room full of strangers-turned-friends is an experience unlike any other. And then there's The Shantell. This stylish cocktail bar in the heart of downtown is where you'll find the city's most discerning cocktail connoisseurs sipping on expertly crafted classics and experimental concoctions alike. With a rotating menu that changes seasonally, The Shantell is always keeping things fresh and exciting. But what really sets Orlando apart from other cities' nightlife scenes is our community spirit. From charity events to queer-centric festivals like the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival (which features a dedicated LGBTQ+ section), we Orlandians know how to come together and support one another. And let's not forget about the DJs! Our city is home to some of the most talented spinning queens and kings in the business. From house heads to techno titans, Orlando's got you covered with a rotating roster of top-notch talent that'll keep you dancing all night long.
