As a longtime resident of Palm Springs, I've had the pleasure of witnessing this desert oasis transform into a beacon of inclusivity and self-expression for the LGBTQ+ community. And what better way to celebrate our fabulousness than with an explosion of color, music, and love during Pride month?!
Let's start at the iconic **Palm Springs Pavilion**, where the city's annual Pride festival takes over the grounds. Imagine a sea of rainbow flags waving in the desert breeze as we gather to celebrate our community's diversity. I've found that nothing beats the feeling of being surrounded by like-minded individuals, all united under the banner of love and acceptance.
But Palm Springs Pride is more than just a party (although, let me tell you, it's a PARTY!). It's an opportunity for us to connect with local businesses, organizations, and artists who are dedicated to creating a more inclusive environment. From **The Ace Hotel**, which has been a mainstay of the LGBTQ+ community since its inception, to **Moxie + Merrymaker**, a boutique shop featuring handmade jewelry and art created by local queer designers – Palm Springs is home to an incredible array of establishments that proudly fly the rainbow flag.
One of my personal favorites is **Workshop Kitchen + Bar**, a restaurant owned by out-and-proud chef, Michael Beckman. Not only does his culinary masterpiece offer an impressive selection of craft cocktails and small plates, but it's also a hot spot for community events and fundraisers. You might catch me there on a Saturday evening, enjoying a round of trivia night with friends or sipping on a bespoke cocktail while cheering on the local drag queens.
Of course, no discussion of Palm Springs Pride would be complete without mentioning **The Dinah**, the world-famous women's music festival that takes over the city each April. This four-day extravaganza is a veritable who's-who of lesbian and queer women in music, featuring acts like **Tegan and Sara** and **Kim Petras**. It's an event that draws visitors from all corners of the globe, solidifying Palm Springs' reputation as the go-to destination for LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment.
As we celebrate our community's triumphs and struggles, it's essential to acknowledge the unsung heroes who make Pride possible – the volunteers, organizers, and sponsors who work tirelessly behind the scenes. From **The Desert Equality Project**, a non-profit dedicated to advancing LGBTQ+ rights in the Coachella Valley, to **PFLAG Coachella Valley**, an organization providing support and resources for queer youth and families, these organizations are the backbone of our community's resilience.
In Palm Springs, we don't just celebrate Pride – we live it. We weave it into the fabric of our daily lives, from the colorful murals adorning our buildings to the rainbow flags waving outside our homes. It's a city where everyone is welcome to join in the fun, where self-expression is encouraged, and love is celebrated in all its forms.
So come one, come all – let's party like it's Pride (month)!!
