I've found myself lost in the Steel City's charm time and again, and this past month was no exception. Pittsburgh, my beloved hometown, is a city that wears its heart on its sleeve – and right now, that heart is beating with love and acceptance!
As I strolled through Oakland's Schenley Park, surrounded by lush greenery and the iconic Cathedral of Learning, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride (pun intended!) watching our community come together to celebrate Pride month. The energy was palpable as rainbow-colored flags fluttered in the breeze, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of acceptance.
One of my favorite highlights from this year's festivities was the Pittsburgh Pride parade, which wound its way through downtown streets, featuring an incredible array of floats, performers, and community groups. I beamed with pride (again, sorry!) watching our city's LGBTQ+ youth strut their stuff alongside local businesses, organizations, and even a few beloved Pittsburgh sports teams!
Of course, no Pride celebration would be complete without a visit to the iconic Randyland, a colorful, whimsical museum dedicated to all things rainbow. As I explored the vibrant exhibits, I was struck by the sheer creativity and joy on display – a true reflection of our community's spirit.
But Pittsburgh's Pride vibes don't stop there! Our city is also home to an impressive array of LGBTQ+ friendly businesses, from the iconic 5801 Video Lounge to the stylishly queer-friendly boutique, The Vault. And let's not forget about the mouth-watering eats at local faves like Enrico Biscotti's or the incomparable Primanti Bros. sandwiches (with coleslaw on the sandwich, of course!).
As a proud Pittsburgher myself, I'm thrilled to see our city embracing its LGBTQ+ heritage and welcoming all members of our community with open arms. Whether you're a native Son of Steel City or just visiting, there's no denying the magic that happens when we come together as one.
So here's to Pittsburgh Pride – may it continue to shine bright for many years to come! And remember, if you ever find yourself in the 'Burgh during June, join me in raising a glass (or two) to our incredible community and all its beauty!
