As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I'm thrilled to share my love for Portland – a city that truly gets it! From its rainbow-painted streets to its inclusive vibe, Portland is a haven for us. As someone who's spent years exploring this fantastic city, I've found that there's always something new to discover, and I can't wait to share some of my faves with you!
First off, let's talk about the obvious – our beloved Pride parade! Every year, thousands of us gather in downtown Portland to celebrate love, acceptance, and community. It's an event like no other, featuring floats, performances, and a sea of colorful costumes. I mean, who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned dance party? And did you know that Portland's Pride festival is one of the largest and most iconic in the country?! Talk about pride!
Now, let's talk about some of my go-to spots for a night out on the town! First up: The Eagle. This popular gay bar has been a staple of the community for over 30 years, offering an unbeatable atmosphere and an impressive selection of beers and cocktails. And don't even get me started on the drag shows – pure entertainment gold!
Next up: Crush Bar. This cozy spot is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, serving up tasty drinks and a killer playlist. Plus, their weekend brunches are the perfect excuse to get your Sunday Funday on! Trust me when I say you won't be disappointed.
And then there's Darcelle XVI's Academy of Beauty – an institution in its own right! This iconic spot has been around since 1967 and is home to some of the most talented makeup artists and stylists in the city. Whether you're looking for a quick touch-up or a full-on makeover, these pros have got you covered.
Now, I know what you're thinking – "What about food?" Don't worry, friend! Portland's got that covered too! For a taste of the good stuff, head to Pok Pok, where you can indulge in delicious Thai cuisine and drinks. Or, if you're in the mood for something sweet, stop by Coquine for some mouthwatering French-inspired treats.
And did I mention our beloved farmers' markets?! Portland's got several markets throughout the city, offering everything from fresh produce to artisanal cheeses and baked goods. It's the perfect place to stock up on goodies or simply enjoy the sunshine and community vibes.
Last but certainly not least: Powell's City of Books! This iconic bookstore is a must-visit for any book lover (or anyone looking for some great recommendations). With over one million books in stock, you're bound to find something that catches your eye. Plus, it's right in the heart of downtown – easy peasy!
Portland's got it all: Pride, nightlife, food, and community! It's a city that truly understands the importance of inclusivity and acceptance, making it an absolute haven for LGBTQ+ folks like me. Whether you're visiting or calling Portland home, there's always something new to explore and discover.
So come on down, y'all! We'll leave the light on for ya!
