As I stepped off the plane in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, I knew I was in for a treat. This coastal city has been a beacon of LGBTQ+ acceptance for decades, drawing travelers from around the world who crave a sense of community and freedom to be themselves. And let me tell you, PVD delivers!
I've had the pleasure of visiting PV (as locals call it) multiple times, and each trip is like coming home to a big ol' party with friends I never knew I had! The energy is palpable from the moment you arrive, whether you're strolling along the Malecón, the city's iconic waterfront promenade, or dancing the night away at one of the many LGBTQ-friendly bars and clubs.
One of my favorite spots is La Noche, a legendary nightlife institution that's been going strong since 1998. This place is the epicenter of PVD's party scene, with DJs spinning everything from house to techno to pop, and drag shows that will leave you gagging (in the best possible way)! I've had some of my most memorable nights here, surrounded by a community that's all about inclusivity and having a blast.
Of course, PVD isn't just about the nightlife – it's also a city with a rich history and culture. Take a stroll through the historic center, where you'll find stunning colonial architecture, quaint shops, and eateries serving up everything from traditional Mexican cuisine to gourmet international fare. And don't miss the vibrant art scene, featuring works by local and international artists that reflect the community's values of love, acceptance, and self-expression.
But what truly sets PVD apart is its unwavering commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and visibility. The city has a long history of welcoming and celebrating diversity, dating back to the 1960s when it became a haven for expats and activists looking to escape persecution in their home countries. Today, PV continues to be a beacon of hope and acceptance, with many local businesses and organizations actively working to support and empower the LGBTQ+ community.
One such organization is the Vallarta Pride Committee, which has been organizing annual pride celebrations since 1995. These events are always a highlight of my trips, featuring parades, parties, and performances that showcase the city's incredible diversity and creativity. And did I mention the food? Oh boy, you won't want to miss the delicious eats and treats available throughout the festival!
As I look back on my time in Puerto Vallarta, it's clear that this city has stolen my heart (and probably a few of your hearts, too!). From its stunning natural beauty to its vibrant cultural scene, PVD is a place where you can truly be yourself – without apology or expectation. So if you're looking for a destination that embodies the spirit of love, acceptance, and community, look no further than Puerto Vallarta!
**Pro Tip:** If you're planning a trip to PV, make sure to check out the city's official tourism website for insider tips on where to stay, eat, and play. And don't forget to download the PVD Guide app, which offers exclusive discounts and deals at many of the city's LGBTQ-friendly venues!
