Just a few blocks away, I find myself at the doorstep of Tilth Restaurant, a farm-to-table gem that's been serving up delicious, organic eats since 2008. As I peruse their menu, I'm struck by the commitment to sustainability and community engagement that drives this business. Not only do they source ingredients from local farmers, but they also partner with area organizations to support LGBTQ+ youth and families. Of course, no trip to Seattle would be complete without a visit to our beloved Pike Place Market. As I wander through the stalls, I'm struck by the sheer diversity of vendors and offerings. From artisanal jewelry makers to queer-owned bakeries, there's something for everyone at this iconic market. And did you know that Pike Place is reportedly the oldest continuously operating farmers market in the country? But it's not just the businesses themselves that make our community so special – it's the people behind them, too! Take, for instance, the incredible work being done by organizations like the Northwest Federation of Female Empowerment (NFFEE). This grassroots group is dedicated to supporting and uplifting queer women, non-binary folks, and gender-nonconforming individuals through empowerment workshops, mentorship programs, and community events. As I reflect on my time in Seattle's LGBTQ+ business scene, I'm filled with a sense of pride and gratitude.
