As I stepped off the train in Sitges, Spain, I knew I was in for a treat. This charming coastal town has long been a hotspot for LGBTQ+ travelers seeking sun-kissed fun, and I'm here to tell you that it does NOT disappoint! From the moment the sun dips below the horizon, Sitges transforms into a pulsating party scene that's equal parts sultry and sophisticated.
As I strolled through the narrow streets of the old town, the air was alive with the sound of laughter, music, and – of course – the unmistakable rhythm of the nightlife. We're talking bars, clubs, and cabarets aplenty, each one more tantalizing than the last! Take, for instance, the legendary La Comedia Cabaret & Bar – a mainstay on Sitges' party scene since 1993. This iconic spot has hosted some of the most renowned drag performers from around the world, making it a must-visit for any self-respecting LGBTQ+ enthusiast.
But Sitges isn't just about the bars and clubs; oh no! The town's scenic beaches – like the picturesque Platja de la Barra – become makeshift dance floors under the stars. And let me tell you, there's nothing quite like dancing to the beat of a DJ spinning tracks beneath the Mediterranean moonlight.
One of my personal favorite spots is La Morena, a sassy little bar that serves up some of the most creative cocktails in town. Their "Fruit de la Pasión" – a sweet and tangy blend of strawberry puree, lime juice, and sparkling water – has become my go-to order for a sultry summer evening. And don't even get me started on the staff: friendly, flirtatious, and always up for a good time!
Of course, no trip to Sitges would be complete without a visit to the legendary Maricel Bar, a beloved institution that's been serving up some of the town's best cocktails since 1973. This cozy spot is equal parts retro-chic and hipster-approved – think vintage posters, dim lighting, and a soundtrack that'll transport you straight to the disco era.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Josh, this all sounds like one big party – but what about the people?" Ah, my friends, that's where Sitges truly shines. This town has a way of bringing folks together from all walks of life – LGBTQ+ travelers and locals alike. You'll find everyone from drag queens to DJs, artists to activists, all united by a shared love of good times, good music, and great company.
In short, Sitges is the real deal – a place where you can be your authentic self, let loose, and experience the raw energy of the LGBTQ+ community at its most vibrant. So grab your sunscreen, your sense of adventure, and your favorite party outfit – because Sitges awaits!
