As a proud member of the Wilton Manors community, I've had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the incredible energy and enthusiasm that permeates our little corner of South Florida. From its humble beginnings as a quiet town to its current status as a thriving hub for all things LGBTQ+, Wilton Manors has evolved into an economic powerhouse that's hard to ignore. As you stroll down Wilton Drive, the heart of our community, it's not uncommon to spot eclectic shops, mouthwatering eateries, and happening bars. But what sets us apart is the palpable sense of belonging that permeates every corner – from the Rainbow Stars flags flapping in the wind to the rainbow-colored manhole covers dotting the streets. And let me tell you, there's no shortage of entrepreneurial spirit here! Local business owners are the lifeblood of our community, and I'm constantly blown away by their creativity, passion, and dedication. From the iconic Rosie's Bar & Grill (reportedly the oldest gay bar in the country!) to The Stonewall News, the award-winning LGBTQ+ newspaper that's been serving our community since 1985 – Wilton Manors is teeming with unique spots that reflect our colorful personality. One of my personal favorites is Aqua Siné, a sleek and modern restaurant that serves up mouthwatering Mediterranean-inspired dishes. With its cozy patio and extensive cocktail menu, it's the perfect spot to grab brunch or dinner with friends (or your significant other!). And did you know that Aqua Siné has been named one of the top 10 LGBTQ-friendly restaurants in the country? Talk about a badge of honor! Of course, no discussion of Wilton Manors would be complete without mentioning our beloved Sal's Pizza & Subs. This family-owned institution has been serving up piping-hot pies and subs since 1989 – that's over three decades of satisfying our cravings! It's a testament to the power of community that this humble pizzeria has become an integral part of our fabric. And then there's the nightlife scene, which is always popping off with events like Wilton Manors' own Pride Month celebration (which draws thousands of attendees each year!) and the annual Stonewall Street Festival. Who needs Miami Beach when you've got Wilton Manors?! From dance parties to live music performances, our community knows how to throw a party that'll leave you breathless! Now, I know what you're thinking: "Winston, this all sounds like a dream come true – but what about the challenges?" Ah, my friends, let me tell you – Wilton Manors isn't without its hurdles.
