Hotel ZaZa Austin Downtown

My take: For being a $500+ a night hotel, I got the service of a courtyard and didn’t think the rooms were anything to write home about. Would recommend staying at an Omni or Austin Proper, etc. Below are a few examples… 1) Check-in didn’t give wifi code or explain anything. Didn’t say welcome in and came off as judgey when there was a slight mistake with reservation. 2) They didn’t bring luggage up to room and had to go down to lobby to get it after waiting 30 min. It was just sitting there. 3) Coffee ran out on my floor and had to go down to front desk to ask. Got snarky response at 10:05 that the coffee stops at 10. They said I could go up to floor 7 to get some. 4) 1 waitress at the pool (poor girl), and had to flag her down for every ask. Not her fault but not a great experience 5) Missed my room for making bed and replacing towels. 6) Staff around the hotel make it feel like you’re bothering them when asking for anything. 7) Rooms are good enough. Maybe slightly below what I would expect for price.

Room is clean and well appointed. Great black out window treatments. Super dark at night. Amazing water pressure in shower. However, poor pressure in sink. Big bathroom, ample counter space, but only one sink. Super soft bathrobe. Quiet HVAC system and room got wonderfully cold quickly. Comfortable bed and as we were at end of hall, very quiet. Yummy large chocolate chip cookies in lobby in individually wrapped bags in late afternoon. Gym was clean and well supplied, but no fans so gets hot quickly. Clever bar name - Group Therapy. Ha! Check in and check was quick and efficient.

The hotel looks nice. The room is clean. The location is very convenient to walk every where downtown. The staff are welcoming and friendly. One star taken away because the pool closed for private party when we arrived. I never understand this! Pools or hot tubs are the amenities of the hotels and included in the room price. And we picked this because they have a nice pool!!

Stayed overnight at Hotel ZaZa Austin while working a couple events at another property, and I’m so glad I chose to stay here. Hospitality was a 12/10 across the board. Every single person I interacted with, from management to valet to the restaurant team, was kind, attentive, and genuinely helpful. The room was spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. Group Therapy served one of the best brunches I’ve had in a while and was incredibly accommodating with dietary restrictions, which I really appreciated. The pool felt private and tucked away in the best way. Even with overcast weather, the temperature was perfect. The decor throughout the property strikes that rare balance of quirky and refined, which is exactly what I look for in a boutique luxury hotel. Already looking forward to coming back and experiencing the spa next time.

First will start by saying that I travel a ton and am very picky with hotels. I’m so glad I decided to take a chance on ZaZa for my trip to Austin - the hotel really impressed us! I thought it was really more of a 5-star hotel than 4-star. We booked through Amex and were upgraded to a suite upon check in, which was lovely. Very comfortable and beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. They thought of every detail (except I would recommend adding a full length mirror). We had a good meal at Group Therapy, which was also beautifully decorated and the bar staff was great. The fitness center was very well done and kept spotless. We also found the daily coffee bar on our floor and afternoon tea in the lobby to be very classy and a nice touch. I found the staff to be perfectly fine. Maybe not the over the top service you would find at a 5-start hotel, but they were kind when they greeted us and helpful when we needed it. I do agree with the other reviews that you will hear outside street noise from the rooms. The hotel is in a busy part of town. As a light sleeper, I did not have issues sleeping, but would recommend coming prepared with a white noise app downloaded if you are noise sensitive as well. Overall, a very impressive stay and will absolutely stay here again!
