Denver, you've done it again! This summer's Pride festivities were absolute magic, and I'm still feeling the high-energy buzz from the non-stop celebration. As a proud member of this fabulous community, I'm thrilled to share my favorite moments from the 2023 Denver PrideFest.
First off, let me just say that the weather was pure perfection – not too hot, not too cold, but juuust right for dancing in the streets. And boy, did we dance! The Pride parade route was packed with rainbow-clad revelers of all ages, waving flags and cheering on the incredible performers and floats.
One of my top highlights was the dazzling display by the Colorado LGBTQ+ Youth Alliance (CLYAAF). These fearless young folks brought their A-game with an energetic routine that had everyone in the crowd on their feet. I've found myself thinking about those talented teens all week – they're truly the future of our community!
Of course, no Pride celebration would be complete without a healthy dose of drag royalty. Shantay, You Stay's annual drag show was everything and more – think sequins, feathers, and enough sass to fill the entire Pepsi Center! I mean, who else can make a room full of grown adults erupt into cheers and applause with just one perfectly executed death drop?
But Pride is about so much more than just parties and performances. It's also about honoring our community's rich history and celebrating the strength and resilience of those who've paved the way for us today.
I had the privilege of attending the Denver LGBTQ+ Community Center's annual Heritage Breakfast, which featured powerful stories from local pioneers like Judy Shepard (yes, that Judy Shepard!) and Dr. Marjorie Meyer Eiseman. Their courage and determination inspired me to tears – and reminded me why Pride is so essential for our community.
As we wrapped up another unforgettable Pride season in Denver, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this incredible city and all the love it has to offer. Whether you're a long-time resident or just visiting from out of town, there's no denying the magic that happens when our community comes together to celebrate diversity, inclusivity, and self-expression.
So here's to Denver PrideFest 2023 – may your memories be as bright and bold as the rainbow flags that waved above us all!
