As someone who's called this city home for a while now, I've had the pleasure of experiencing the magic that happens during Pride month. And trust me, it's an event like no other! First off, let me tell you – Fort Lauderdale knows how to throw a party! The streets come alive with colorful floats, sassy performances, and some of the most fabulous drag queens in the game. But beyond the spectacle, Fort Lauderdale Pride is so much more than just a parade. It's a celebration of love, acceptance, and community. For me, Pride has always been about being part of something bigger than myself. It's about knowing that I'm not alone, that there are thousands of people in this city who get it – who understand the struggles, the triumphs, and the quirks that come with being a member of our LGBTQ+ family. And Fort Lauderdale does Pride right! From the moment the sun rises on that first Sunday in June, you can feel the energy coursing through the air like a electric buzz. Of course, no discussion of Fort Lauderdale Pride would be complete without mentioning the legendary Wilton Manors Stonewall Lounge – the OG gay bar that's been serving up good vibes and great times for over 30 years! This is where it all started, folks – where our community found its voice, its courage, and its sense of belonging. And when we come together to celebrate Pride, you can bet your bottom dollar that Wilton Manors will be at the epicenter of the action! Now, I know some of you might be thinking, "Josh, what about the rest of the city?" Don't worry, friends – Fort Lauderdale's got you covered! From the sun-kissed beaches to the bustling downtown area, there are plenty of ways to get your Pride on. Whether it's a rooftop party overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway or a lively block party in the heart of Himmarshee Village, there's something for everyone. And let's not forget about the politics – because, at the end of the day (ahem), that's what Pride is all about! Our community has faced far too many battles over the years, and it's time we come together to celebrate our triumphs and honor those who paved the way for us. So, take a moment to reflect on the struggle, but also know that we've got this – we're strong, resilient, and unstoppable!
